Autism is a disorder that is usually first diagnosed in early childhood. The main signs and symptoms of autism involve communication, social interactions and repetitive behaviors.

Children with autism might have problems talking with you, or they might not look you in the eye when you talk to them. They may have to line up their pencils before they can pay attention, or they may say the same sentence again and again to calm themselves down. They may flap their arms to tell you they are happy, or they might hurt themselves to tell you they are not. Some people with autism never learn how to talk. (more…)

Today is National Day to raise awareness about autism. Autism is a group of disorders that affect how a child develops in several areas, such as speech, social skills and behavior. Because the severity and extent of symptoms varies considerably, it is said that children with problems in these areas have an autistic spectrum disorder. Academy of Pediatrics U.S. (American Academy of Pediatrics, AAP) recommend testing for early detection of autism in all children aged 18 to 24 months of life as part of his medical check. The diagnosis and early treatment can greatly improve the outlook for children with autism.
Each autistic child is unique, but may share certain traits and behaviors with others, such as:

* Do not talk (about 40 percent of autistic children do not speak at all)
* Repeats words
* Performs repetitive movements, such as shaking hands
* Do not play simulation games
* Hyperactive
* Has tantrums frequently
* Avoid eye contact
* Has difficulty initiating or maintaining a conversation and make friends
