The skin of childrenKeep_ratio=1The children’s skin is very soft and has very good hydration . Is 40% thinner than an adult and has a pH greater, with lower acid content, which reduces the protection of skin from bacteria and infections, a fact which is exacerbated by a weak immune system. These features make possible toxicity and allergies with the use of certain products, so special care must be taken when choosing creams, powders and ointments that can be applied to the skin of a child.

It is important that parents follow a regimen of skin care for their children to protect them from environmental damage and sun, and to ensure the skin is properly clean and moisturized .

Some tips to keep in mind about skin care for children are:
Sun Care: Apply sunscreen daily to all children who are 6 or more months. Keep children under 6 months out of the sun.
Apply insect repellent to all children 6 months of age or older. In areas with many mosquitoes cover them most of the body with clothes.

At bath time, use fragrance-free products and are hypoallergenic. Soaps, shampoos and products moisturizers for use after the bath should be special for the children’s skin. You should avoid rubbing the skin with towels or sponges.
You should dress children in clothing that is cotton and is not adjusted, without frills or labels that can cause irritation.

You should avoid putting cotton in the nostrils or the ear canal and limit the auricle.
Do not use fabric softeners or bleach to wash clothes. Wash clothing thoroughly with water after washing.

skin of childrenThe skin of the young child has characteristics that are proper and distinguished from the older child or adult. This determines the daily grooming and other activities in which the skin undergoes some degree of aggression, we should consider that the resistance and tolerance will not be the same as mature skin, so the possibility of irritation, inflammation, infection , laceration or erosion is more likely to occur.

Nacer is more than mourn
The changes radically at birth their environment: a liquid medium, aseptic thermoregulated and protected from ultraviolet radiation passes through a dry environment, with abundant microbial flora, generally colder and absolutely at the mercy of solar radiation.

Functions of the skin
The skin is the body responsible for maintaining the internal environment as a barrier protecting against dehydration, the invasion by organisms able to withstand the cold or heat, and blocking harmful UV rays. This buffering capacity is evolving over time, remains very precarious in the premature baby, while in the term infant (born between 38 and 41 weeks of gestation), the maturation of each of these properties occurs in the first months of life, gradually.

They all shed.
The first manifestation in the skin of this sudden change of environment is peeling, this occurs by drying the surface stratum, and is manifested by the drying and peeling thin, sometimes widespread, occurring usually after the second day of life, and for three weeks. (more…)

skin careThe children are still too young to suffer from acne. Of course, there are also several decades of having wrinkles. However, we should not stop paying attention to skin care of the smallest in the house.

The skin of children is very soft and sensitive so must be protected from sunlight, a duty that all parents should teach their children. The sun protection must not only be for days at the beach during the summer, as also in everyday life we are exposed to them. If kids want to play outdoors, for example, be sure to do so early in the morning or after five in the afternoon with sunscreen.

On the other hand, the capacity for regeneration of the skin is higher child to adult.

The characteristics of the child’s skin are changing at different stages of development:

- Newborn. The skin of the newborn appears to be covered by a white fatty layer (called vernix). Under this layer of fat, we see a reddish skin in a few hours is become more pink. It can be seen a very fine hair (lanugo).

- Infant . The subcutaneous tissue thickness increases with increasing fat deposits, giving the infant the roundness of its forms.

- Child . In children the skin remains smooth and rosy, but the subcutaneous tissue and decreases the appearance of the child becomes more elongated.

- Cold . Cold protection is especially important in newborns because the regulation of body temperature is inefficient and hypothermia can easily shelter themselves adequately for it to newborns and seek a warm atmosphere. Infants and children should be protected from the cold in the same way as adults and must use a number of garments similar to those used by their parents.

- Heat . We must avoid situations the heat excess clothing as this will cause increased sweating and promote the development of irritative lesions (sudamen) in the skin.

- Sun . The mechanisms of protection of children from the sun are not fully developed. Therefore, burn quickly and tans with difficulty. It is recommended to ensure maximum protection for children.

- Bath . In caring for the child’s skin is essential bathroom. Bathing the child should be daily. The water should be warm (approximately at a temperature of 36 º C) and atmosphere of the room must be warm (at a temperature of about 23 to 24 º C). It will use a gel and a soft sponge and we will take special care in cleaning the folds. Drying is done with a soft towel, preferably cotton.
